Lochinvar Armor Water Heaters

The company's three new models of Armor brand water heats - 600,000, 700,000 or 800,000 Btu-per-hour - each heat water and then deposits it in a separate storage tank, where any lime scale buildup won't impair heat-transfer efficiency. Equipped with a modulating, five-stage turndown burner, an Armor heater can fire as low as 20 percent of maximum input and, depending on demand, modulate up to 100 percent. The company claims 98 percent thermal efficiency, and y'know, 98 percent of anything is a lot.

The Armor heaters come with a built-in "cascading sequencer" that lets you daisychain up to eight heaters in what the company calls an exclusive way of modulating firing rates - going from minimum-demand situations when only one heater is needed, all the way on up to a combined 6.4 million Btu/hour. These heaters can be vented using inexpensive PVC or CPVC pipe. And let's face it: The only lime we really want to deal with is the one on the edge of our glass of beer.
