Co-op / Condo News: Boards vs. Mom and Apple Pie — Literally! — and More

New York, NY, March 14, 2011 — Recent news for co-op boards and condo associations.

What could be more American than mom and apple pie? We don't know and a couple of boards don't care. In New York, a condo board is trying to evict a retail meeting place for moms who breast-feed. And in Florida, a homeowners-association board is fining some poor woman $100 a day because her garden includes — are you ready? — fruit trees! No, wait, it gets worse: She also dares to grow peas and carrots! Nooooo! We've also got a noisy board member and a litigious neighbor who deserve each other at the Trafalgar House condo (at right), where talking to the press gets you booted off the board. That's certainly one way to cover up possible transgressions. Or maybe, as the ex-board member claims, it's because she's Dominican. Quite a story....
