Hudson Valley Service Workers Union Marching Today in Scarsdale
Sept. 23, 2014 — As the Sept. 30 union contract deadline approaches for co-op, condo and other residential-building service workers in New York State's Hudson Valley region, members of SEIU Local 32BJ Hudson Valley will march today with elected officials and the community in of the 1,400 men and women who serve what the union estimates as 100,000 area residents. The march assembles at 5 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church at 5 Strathmore Road in Scarsdale, N.Y., and the march will be on Garth Road in that town.
The union says hundreds of building-service workers will march, alongside 32BJ SEIU Executive Vice President Larry Engelstein, Vice President John Santos and Secretary-Treasurer Kyle Bragg, as well as elected officials including White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach, Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano, Assemblymembers David Buchwald, Shelly Mayer, Amy Paulin and Ken Zebrowski, State Senator David Carlucci, Westchester City Councilmember Catherine Borgia and Yonkers City Councilmember Christopher Johnson.
The expiring contract covers union doormen, porters, supers and handypersons. Contract talks with the Building and Realty Institute of Westchester and the Mid-Hudson Region began on July 30th.
