Con Edison's New Area Growth Zones for Gas with a Sweet Incentive

New York City, The Bronx

April 9, 2015 — For co-ops and condos eager to switch from oil to gas but stymied by the cost, Con Edison has just announced 16 new Area Growth Zones for 2016 with a sweet incentive — a no-cost connection opportunity from the street to your building. It's a continuation of the company's present program, and the time to sign up is now. In case you don't know, there are two main costs in a conversion project. One is the price of all work within your property line, such as gas piping, equipment, and chimney-liners, which are the building's responsibility. The cost for this work is typically referred to as the "internal conversion costs."

The other cost, typically referred to the "capital construction cost," is the cost for Con Edison to provide and install gas facilities up to your building's property line — that is, the cost of making the connection from the gas line in the street to your building.

Buildings within the just-announced zones may be eligible to connect at no cost for a single firm-gas service. The goal of this zone approach is to allow Con Edison to coordinate construction activity to reduce disruption and noise in neighborhoods. Each zone has an applicable timeline and terms for eligibility, with participation deadlines as early as May 8, 2015.

A 2016 Area Growth Acknowledgment Letter must be signed by either the building owner or a duly authorized board member (please note property managers/managing agents are not authorized to sign this letter) submitted to Con Edison at gasconversions@conEd.com with the applicable zone indicated in the subject line; and.

An electronic gas service request submitted to Con Edison at conEd.com/es with applicable zone indicated in the 'Scope of Work' section of the request.
