BetaLED's The Edge Garage Lighting

Dec. 11, 2009 — You've seen that parking garage in countless movie thrillers. You know the one — where the unsuspecting heroine clacks across the floor in her heels, the sound echoing ominously off concrete walls. The dull fluorescent lighting overhead buzzes and flickers on and off. Deep, dark shadows are everywhere. And then, from out of nowhere springs ... the thought that if her co-op or condo board had installed better, more energy-efficient lighting, her building would save money while also providing clearer, safer illumination AND simultaneously avoid movie cliches!

This particular "luminaire," as such self-contained, complete lighting units are known in the trade, is The Edge model from manufacturer Beta Kramer Lighting's BetaLED brand. It comes in five varieties (Type V, Petroleum Symmetric, 15° Flood, 25° Flood and 40° Flood) that have in common an energy-saving feature: Through an integrated occupancy sensor, its light can be dimmed 50 percent while using only a third, rather than a half, of its standard electrical power.

Made of extruded aluminum and stamped-metal components, The Edge houses its LED driver in a weather-tight, sealed mount. A nickel-chrome plated wire guard provides protection from leaves, debris and animal nesting. The mounting bracket designed to mount directly over existing single-gang and octagonal junction boxes. The fixture, which comes in a variety of finishes, has a five-year limited warranty. You can look it over up, down and all around with one of those 360° viewers at the company website.
