Cooper B-Line GrateWalk
April 7, 2010 — We had a rooftop New Product here just a couple of weeks ago, but it's always nice being, like the old song says, up on the roof. It's not so nice for the roof, of course — like another song says, every step you take, every move you make, adds to wear and tear up there. How does a co-op board or a condo association minimize impact when you or your contractors need to be walking around on the roof? Easy — you don't walk on it, you walk over it, using such handy-dandy devices as Cooper B-Line's new GrateWalk walkways.
The benefits are twofold. First, you eliminate the risk of people tripping over exposed cables, pipes and other utility conduits. Second, you extend the life of your roof by providing a single, identifiable path for foot traffic to your roof-mounted equipment. The GrateWalk bridging stands on block supports of 100% post-consumer recycled rubber, which helps support LEED credit qualification.
The walkways are available in a variety of configurations, with straight sections, platforms, cross-over options, stairways to lead to or go over the top of existing equipment, and handrails. Sort of sounds like putting together a Hot Wheels racetrack, doesn't it? The company — founded as B-Line in 1956, and a division of Cooper Industries since 2000 — also offers accessories to support unique roof requirements.
So, to paraphrase yet another song, take a walk on the topside. Because now you can walk on the topside without actually walking on the topside.
