EnvironMelt Green De-Icer
We want ice in our drinks, not on our sidewalks. Removing it so that no one goes slipping and sliding usually means spreading salt – which can do all sorts of damage to concrete, soil, and pets' feet. But now you can pass on the salt with EnvironMelt, a green-alternative ice-melter.
Made with CMA (calcium magnesium acetate), it's billed as less harmful to vegetation, building materials and dogs. Also probably to pigeons, for you bird-lovers, and rats, for, I dunno, people who think they have just the cutest little whiskers. The Canadian company Kissner, its primary distributor, says the product doesn't irritate skin and that it's non-tracking. Depending on quantity, you can buy it for about $40 - $55 per 35-pound drum from such sources as CleaningPro.com, or $10.50 - $14 a bag from Northeast Nursery, Inc., LandCare Associates and others.
