Lochinvar Sync Condensing Boiler
Dec. 19, 2008 — Ever get that sinking feeling when you see your building's heating bill? Well, now you can get that Sync-ing feeling, which doesn't cost as much and is greener besides. That's because Lochinvar, a third-generation family-owned company founded in 1919, has introduced its Sync model of condensing boiler. This isn't your father's boiler (which, we guess, the previous Lochinvar generations would have sold). No! Condensing boilers are a high-tech type more energy-efficient than conventional ones, since they condense and recycle exhaust gases that would otherwise escape, and use them to preheat incoming water. This increases fuel efficiency — saving you money and reducing environmental emissions
In the short-term, you'll pay more long green to go green, since condensing boilers are more expensive to buy. But they pay for themselves after a few years.
This particular brand is so high-tech that its controls are all touch-screen, and its computerized with a database of real-time operations data and such performance history as faults, trends and energy consumption. Other control features include outdoor reset, three pump control, night setback, hot water generator compatibility and password security.
Equipped with a cascading sequencer for up to eight boilers, the stainless-steel Sync can deliver 12 million BTU/hour of heat with up to 98 percent thermal efficiency, according to the company. As for physical details, it has a direct-vent design with intake and exhaust runs up to 100 feet — and, at 31x58 inches, it easily fits through standard doorways. The Sync has a 10-year limited warranty.
