Lyon Workspace Lockers
Jan. 29, 2010 — Yes, lockers. Believe it or not, something as simple as a place all their own where your co-op or condo doormen and porters can hang up their coats can actually help lift employee morale and instill a sense of professionalism. And while you wouldn't think there'd be a whole lot of "new" in "new products" where lockers are concerned, that's apparently not so — at least according to the more than century-old Lyon Workspace, an Illinois company so good ol' fashioned that its headquarters are actually on a Main Street, USA.
Lyon's new line o' lockers are made of "galvannealed" steel, which refers to steel that's immersed in a bath of molten zinc in order to have a zinc coating — creating the familiar galvanized steel — and which is then heated in an oven to change the coating to a zinc-iron alloy. (See? Now you know you really didn't waste your time taking high-school chemistry!) What's the advantage of galvannealed steel? Better paintability and weldability than galvanized. It's more prone to corrosion, though, so Lyon slaps a standard "powder coat" hard finish to prevent that. The point to all this is, you're getting a quality locker.
The company has a host of models with varying numbers of tiers and openings — here's a page of single-tier lockers and a page of double-tier lockers, for example. The single-tier models such as the one above each have a shelf with nine-inch clearance, for hats, lunches, etc., plus a padock attachment. The 12- and 15-inch deep models each have a double-prong hook as well as three single-prong hooks. The 18- and 21-inch deep models each have a coat rod in place of the double-prong.
Whatever you choose, your staff will surely appreciate that you've spiffed up your staff space. Besides, it's the one time you won't mind your employees Lyon down on the job!
