Talk-a-Phone Emergency Tower
Dec. 31, 2009 — You might think that only mega-sites like Co-op City or townhouse-style co-op and condo apartment complexes on large expanses of land might want to have an emergency-phone tower or two in dark, out-of-the-way places. But let us tell you, there's a regular old apartment house on wide, pleasant West 110th Street in Manhattan that has something similar to this model from the Chicago-area company Talk-a-Phone. No neighborhood's immune from crime.
Fortunately, safety is never something that co-op or condo board members have to hard-sell to residents, and whether you live in The Bronx or the Battery, Park Avenue or Park Slope, there are always places where, at the very least, it doesn't hurt to give your people a little reassuring insurance. The trio of ETP-400 models stand just over 10 feet high, and roughly a foot wide and deep. The tower features three highly visible LED illuminated signs that can display critical information relayed to them — pre-programmed locally or sent remotely via a network connection. Its emergency phone is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and is integrated with what the company calls WEBS, or Wide-Area Emergency Broadcast System, which includes concealed, high-power speakers for 360º audio coverage, and the ability to broadcast audio messages to towers individually, in selected groups, or all simultaneously.
The blue light strobe mounted atop each model is continuously lit. Once the "Emergency" button is pushed or a remote guard calls in to the emergency phone, the strobe starts flashing while LED signage automatically changes to attract attention. Model ETP-400 has a standard red "Emergency" button, while ETP-400D has additionally has a black "Info" button to allow two different types of locations to be called. The ETP-400K has a red "Emergency" button as well as a black "Call" button that allows access to the built-in keypad. Options allow infrared and wireless networking.
