5 Things Your Need to Know Before You Redesign Your Lobby

  1. Hire a designer. Find a designer who specializes in lobbies. Interior designers charge an hourly fee or take a percentage of the job cost.
  2. Keep everyone in the loop. To avoid shocking shareholders with a new velveteen sofa, designers recommend keeping residents in the loop. Create a design committee with both board and non-board members.
  3. Decide on an approach. Do you want a complete makeover or just a minor touch-up? Or do you want to restore the lobby to its original glory?
  4. Work with what you’ve got. Sometimes, less is more. Moving a sculpture to a new location can breathe new life into it. Or keep costs down by replacing existing lighting with affordable table lamps.
  5. Do everything at the same time. Doing the work in spurts is a financially attractive option on the surface, but it may ultimately cost the building more.
