We already know that Brooklyn is the world’s hottest incubator of supertall buildings, bearded and man-bunned hipsters, artisanal mayonnaise, writers, and a doomed subway line. Now get ready for the borough to become even more insufferable.
According to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, the borough’s population, now 2.6 million, will bypass Chicago’s by 2020, effectively making it the third largest city in the country, Gothamist reports. Brooklyn’s population has grown by 5.3 percent since 2010, in keeping with New York City trends.
If the prediction comes to pass, it will be the first time Brooklyn’s population has surpassed Chicago’s since 1890. But don’t expect the bragging to last long. That sprawling amoeba known as Houston is expected to surpass Brooklyn for #3 by the year 2035.
