Clean Burn CB-500-CTB Used-Oil Boiler
Feb. 6, 2009 — What's red and green, even though it's not Christmas? Why, it's this 372,000 BTU / 109 kW-per-hour burner for baseboard heating and other applications — which, says the company, is part of the industry's only line of coil-tube boilers engineered from the ground up to burn used oil. Now, that's ho ho hot!
Recycling oil saves you money and helps the environment, of course — you've probably heard something about that whole "dependence on foreign oil" thing, blah blah blah — and the CB-500-CTB can take 3.57 gallons-per-hour of your used oil (and also standard #2 heating oil, if you run low on the used stuff, which can range in viscosity from 10w to 50w).
It's relatively small and light (85.25 x 43.5 x 47.85 inches, and 1,600 pounds) yet is designed to heat over 12,000 square feet. The low-mass water design holds just 20.6 gallons of water, for quick start-up, yet 37 gallons per minute flow through the coil. This and two previous models, the smaller CB-200-CTB and CB-350-CTB, also are designed with a hinged burner that swings out for easy cleaning and maintenance. Likewise, handy-dandy little doors, basically, allow you to get in and do routine ash-cleaning in just 30 minutes rather than a couple of hours, and only once every 1000 hours, the company claims, as opposed to the typical 400 hours. The boiler arrives with wiring and plumbing in place for quick installation, and can be chained with other Clean Burn boilers for larger buildings.
The company, founded in 1979, is based in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where it can get pretty cold. That's a good sign. You know what we say: Never trust a boiler company in the Bahamas.
